medieval kings. Chapter VII: Mauregato I

Or how to postpone the inevitable a few years

Much has happened since the last entry in the series (beginning of October, go), but never too late to recover it, I hope. Let's see if we can get beat.

Well, the fact is that, as a souvenir, we let in 783, with King Shiloh died, with their desire to be succeeded by the son of Fruela I, Alfonso, an intention that was also part of the nobility headed by the mother of it (and wife of the latter) Adosinda. And so it was chosen. But he lasted little joy to the young king (should by that time about 23 years, and here I am still studying), for those not directly supported him chose to lend his hand to Mauregato, the bastard son of Alfonso I and therefore Adosinda stepbrother.

The case is still smarting from the nobility authoritarianism of Fruela I, and that they had already spent fifteen years. Instead, the image they had of Alfonso I, father of Fruela, was significantly better. So Mauregato Alfonso's uncle, but the son of Fruela Alfonso, of course. Are the things you have four names, we finally Liam.

Mauregato received the news with joy, we suppose. And we believe by how he acted when he began his reign: a base pressure, the side alfonsino was minimized, and the applicant, regardless Adosinda, retired this time to the east to Alava. She, meanwhile, seeing that his head was hanging by a thread, went to a convent in Pravia and peace here and then glory. And there he died in 785.

Without giving Alfonso war and her cloistered Mauregato free rein to rule was comfortable ... At least one time. It has no known exploits of war, but as I said Aurelio talking, kept the peace with Muslims in exchange for a special annual payment, the famous tribute of a hundred maidens. Tribute in my opinion should not be such that it should be no more hostages to secure the payment, but anyway, if it occurred, was during the reign of this man when he became a regular.

A remarkable fact of this king was his participation in the debate emerged around the issue of Adoptionism. So what is what? So basically, a heresy in the church Mozarabic resurgent Spain. These ideas were considered heretical for three-plus centuries, and eventually forgotten, until now. Yes, but what is? In short, the claim that Jesus was not son of God, but he was adopted. Someone had to tell her, and better late than never.

The Church of the Kingdom of Asturias was positioned against this heresy, as was the official position of the Church. Had to be happy to Charlemagne. And what I should have won the support of the clergy was not such. Or at least not said.

Mauregato died in 789, we assume that disease, although as recently as 32 years old, was still "young." Neither could be much higher since it was allegedly conceived after their widowed father. I read somewhere he was overthrown and killed, but not supported anywhere. Have been, had crowned Alfonso, and it was not. Instead, the throne went Asturias Bermudo I (although there are those who write with 'V' in respect to the original script, I guess).

Indeed, Mauregato must be married with such a Creusa, who had a son, Herman, is named Goth. But that is questioned, since it is based on an alleged document whose authenticity is questionable.

Finally, it is said that Mauregato come to mean something like "Morogodo." Could be the key to showing that the boy is the son of a Muslim slave and the king of Asturias ("Gothic")?
